Goa EV Scheme: The Government of Goa has set its sights on a significant milestone in the realm of electric vehicles (EVs), with a renewed focus on transitioning towards cleaner transportation. With the aim of achieving at least 25% of new vehicle registrations in the state to be EVs this year, the government has reintroduced its scheme for the purchase of EVs and the conversion of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles into electric ones.
Objective of Goa EV Subsidy
The overarching goal of the scheme is to expedite the adoption of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to bring about tangible improvements in air quality by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, minimizing noise levels, and curbing the use of fossil fuels in the transportation sector.
With Goa boasting a vehicle density of 625 vehicles for every 100 people, ranking 15th in the world in this regard, the adoption of EVs for daily commute becomes imperative. Such a shift is crucial for achieving various environmental goals, including enhancing air quality and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.
Furthermore, the government aims to leverage this scheme to stimulate job creation in diverse sectors such as driving, sales, financing, servicing, retrofitting, and charging infrastructure for EVs. This holistic approach underscores the government’s commitment to fostering a sustainable and eco-friendly transportation ecosystem in the state.
Benefits of Goa EV Scheme
Under this scheme, financial incentives are provided for all categories of EVs at a flat rate of ₹8,000 per vehicle. However, the subsidy benefits extend further, as EV owners can avail incentives under separate categories, including retrofitting and scrapping or e-registering an ICE vehicle. The maximum subsidy available is ₹15,000 for a two-wheeler, ₹60,000 for a three-wheeler, and ₹100,000 for an electric car.
Types of Vehicles | EV Nos | Subsidy for Purchase | EV Nos | Subsidy for Retrofitting | EV Nos | Subsidy for Scrapping and De-registering |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Electric 2 Wheeler | 5000 | ₹8000 | 30 | ₹15,000 | 200 | ₹5000 |
Electric 3 Wheeler | 50 | ₹8000 | 50 | ₹50,000 | 25 | ₹10,000 |
Electric 4 Wheeler | 600 | ₹8000 | 150 | ₹1,00,000 | 50 | ₹10,000 |
This initiative, which operates on a first-come-first-serve basis, spans from August 2022 to December 31st, 2024. Notably, the actual subsidy to EV owners is expected to surpass these figures, as the fiscal incentives offered under the scheme will be supplemented by demand incentives available in the FAME India Phase II Scheme of the Union Government.
