The Bangla Awas Yojana (BAY) is a housing scheme initiated by the Government of West Bengal to support financially disadvantaged populations in accessing affordable housing.
Under the Bangla Awas Yojana, the government provides various housing benefits designed to ensure affordable housing for economically disadvantaged residents of West Bengal, promoting improved living conditions for all. All individuals who meet the eligibility criteria for this scheme are listed as beneficiaries and will receive support toward owning their own home.

West Bengal’s Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, has allocated several thousand crores of rupees to the Bangla Awas Yojana. The primary objective of this scheme is to provide housing support for individuals who were not accommodated under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, allowing them to enroll in the Bangla Awas Yojana for assistance in securing a home.
Bangla Awas Yojana 2024
The Bangla Awas Yojana (BAY) is a housing initiative launched by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India, during the fiscal year 2016-17. Its goal is to provide permanent housing with a minimum area of 25 sq. meters and a hygienic cooking space for all houseless households and families residing in kutcha or dilapidated homes. The program offers financial assistance of ₹130,000 per house, with funding shared between the Central and State Governments in a 60:40 ratio, directly credited to the beneficiary’s bank account in three installments.
The financial assistance provided is disbursed directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts in three installments:

Bangla Awas Yojana Eligibility
To qualify for the Bangla Awas Yojana, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a permanent resident of West Bengal.
- Have an annual household income below ₹1 lakh.
- Own no house or live in a kutcha/dilapidated home.
- Possess a BPL (Below Poverty Line) ration card.
- Not be a government employee.
How to Apply Bangla Awas Yojana
The MoRD has created a Permanent Waiting List (PWL) based on housing deficiency and social deprivation data from the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011. Beneficiaries listed on this PWL are automatically eligible and do not need to reapply. The PWL is updated on the MoRD, Government of India website at www.pmayg.nic.in.
If your name is on the PWL, you are automatically considered for housing assistance.
Sanctioning of houses is conducted annually based on priority in the PWL and category-specific allocation.
