Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur briefed the media following the Union Cabinet meeting, revealing that approval has been granted for the implementation of a scheme aimed at installing rooftop solar panels and providing free electricity of up to 300 units every month for one crore households. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the Union Cabinet meeting, where the PM-Surya GharMuft Bijli Yojana was given the green light, with a total budget of 75021 crore allocated for rooftop solar installation and free electricity provision. PM Modi officially launched the scheme on February 13, 2024. In a post on X platform, PM Modi emphasized that the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, endorsed by the Cabinet, will revolutionize sustainable energy solutions for every household, promising a brighter, greener future.

By harnessing solar power, this initiative aims to illuminate lives without burdening pockets. The scheme offers central financial assistance (CFA) covering 60% of the system cost for 2 kW systems and 40% of the additional system cost for systems ranging from 2 kW to 3 kW capacity, with the CFA capped at 3 kW.

Objective of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana 2024

Households will have access to collateral-free, low-interest loans at approximately 7% interest for installing residential rooftop solar systems up to 3 kW. Additionally, each district will feature a Model Solar Village to inspire rural adoption. Urban Local Bodies and Panchayati Raj Institutions will receive incentives for promoting rooftop solar installations. The scheme includes payment security for RESCO-based models and funds for innovative RTS projects. Participants can save on electricity bills and earn from surplus power sales to DISCOMs. On average, a 3 kW system can generate over 300 units per month for a household.

The applications for the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana can be submitted online through the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Online Registration Portal https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in/ Households can apply for subsidies via the national portal and choose a vendor for rooftop solar installation. The portal aids decision-making by offering details like system sizes, benefits calculator, and vendor ratings.

  • Enter your Electricity Consumer Number
  • Enter Mobile Number

Login with your Consumer Number & Mobile Number.

Apply for Rooftop Solar using the provided form.

Fill out the online application form.

Wait for feasibility approval from DISCOM.

Once feasibility approval is received, proceed to install the solar plant using any registered vendors within your DISCOM.

After installation, submit plant details and apply for a net meter.

Following net meter installation and inspection by DISCOM, a commissioning certificate will be generated from the portal.

Upon receipt of the commissioning report, submit your bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal.

Subsidy will be credited to your bank account within 30 days.
