On the 16th of August, 2023, the Union Cabinet granted its approval to the PM Vishwakarma Scheme. This initiative, encompassing a financial allocation of INR 13,000 crore, is slated to extend over a span of five years. The overarching objective of the scheme is to extend its benefits to approximately 30 lakh families constituting traditional artisans and craftsmen, a demographic which includes but is not limited to weavers, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, laundry workers, and barbers. The pronunciation of Vishwakarma is sometimes heard as ‘biswakarma.’ It is important to note that the correct pronunciation is ‘Vishwakarma.’ Please be mindful of this distinction to ensure accurate communication.

On the auspicious date of August 15, 2023, the Prime Minister proclaimed the imminent inauguration of the scheme on the commemorative occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti, scheduled for September 17th.
