On the 16th of August, 2023, the Union Cabinet granted its approval to the PM Vishwakarma Scheme. This initiative, encompassing a financial allocation of INR 13,000 crore, is slated to extend over a span of five years. The overarching objective of the scheme is to extend its benefits to approximately 30 lakh families constituting traditional artisans and craftsmen, a demographic which includes but is not limited to weavers, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, laundry workers, and barbers.
The pronouncement ensued from a convocation of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On the auspicious date of August 15, 2023, the Prime Minister proclaimed the imminent inauguration of the scheme on the commemorative occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti, scheduled for September 17th. Within the framework of this Scheme, artisans and craftsmen will garner acknowledgment by means of the PM Vishwakarma Certificate and ID Card. Notably, they shall receive credit assistance, with an initial tranche amounting to 1 lakh and a subsequent tranche of 2 lakhs, distinguished by a preferential interest rate set at 5%.

Benefits of PM Vishwakarma Scheme 2023
Under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, the families of traditional artisans and craftsmen will receive the following benefits:
- Collateral Free Loan upto ₹3 lakh for Vishwakarma brothers and sisters
- Toolkit up to ₹15 thousand
- Training for Skill Up-gradation and Stipend of ₹500 per day
- Marketing Assistance like Quality Certification, Branding, and Advertising for finished products
- Low interest rate of 5%
- Through the Scheme, artisans and craftsmen will receive recognition using PM Vishwakarma Certificate and ID Card.
- Artisans and craftsmen will also get help to improve their skills, tool kits, rewards for digital payments, and assistance with marketing.
