Pradhan Mantri Suryoday Yojana 2024
On January 22, 2024, there was a program for the Pran Pratishtha of Lord Ram’s temple. After completing this program, when Prime Minister Modi returned, he gave the people of the country an important gift and also announced the launch of the solar scheme. This scheme has been named the Suryoday Yojana which means Sunrise in English by the Prime Minister Modi. Providing information about the Pradhan Mantri Solar Yojana Scheme, PM Modi said that through this scheme, solar systems will be installed on the roofs of beneficiaries homes, so that solar energy can be promoted in the country.
PM Free Solar Panel Yojana: Later on February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced it in the interim budget speech. In her budget speech, the Finance Minister mentioned that the scheme could save an annual amount of 15 to 18 thousand crore rupees in electricity costs. She also highlighted the potential for creating employment opportunities in large numbers in the charging and manufacturing/installation of electric vehicles. Following this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged private entrepreneurs to benefit from this scheme during the inauguration speech of the Mobility India Summit. He particularly emphasized working in the battery storage sector for electricity generated from solar energy.
This will also significantly reduce people’s electricity expenses and their dependence on electricity, as most of the time there is ample sunlight in the country. In such a scenario, a country like India should definitely take advantage of the abundant sunlight. With solar panels installed in people’s homes, they can have fans running during the heat and enjoy the benefits of heaters during the cold. Additionally, students will find it easier to prepare for their exams with solar lights.

Benefits of Suryoday Yojana
Currently, the government provides subsidies ranging from 20% to 40% for the scheme.
These households generally use fewer electrical appliances. However, it’s expected that after installing solar energy systems, there will be an increased demand for these appliances in these households. To address this, the government is considering involving other agencies in the scheme. For example, companies that manufacture electric stoves could be included to supply stoves to these households on easy installments.
